A course catalog built for accuracy.

Every coaching insight depends on the underlying course data being right. Here's how we approach it — and why it matters for your stats.

What we're building toward

US courses at launch

Coverage targeting all 50 states, with thousands of courses verified at launch and the catalog growing every round played.

Thousands of courses · all 50 US states
Per-tee rating methodology

Our handicap calculations are built to the published World Handicap System specification — Net Double Bogey cap, slope-adjusted differentials, and best 8 of the last 20 rounds.

WHS-aligned · index designed to match WHS-compliant services
Verified course information

Multiple independent inputs are cross-checked for each course. No single information source is complete, so we layer them carefully and let coverage compound over time.

Layered & cross-referenced · quality scales with usage
Cost to access

Course catalog access is included with your subscription. No "premium catalog" upsell, no separate paywall, no extra fee.

How we build the catalog

1

Public mapping foundation

We start with publicly-licensed mapping data that identifies course locations, names, and basic facts — the same kind of foundational data that powers navigation apps. It gives us a verified base of thousands of US courses with accurate GPS coordinates.

2

Cross-referenced location data

We supplement the mapping foundation with cross-referenced GPS coordinates and course-type information — public, municipal, private, semi-private — from independent archives. This fills geographic gaps and adds context.

3

Course metadata enrichment

Address, phone, year built, course architect, hole count — all sourced from publicly-archived course information and verified against multiple references. So we can show a real course detail page, not just a name on a map.

4

Official rating standards

For accurate handicap calculation, every tee needs an official rating and slope. We integrate recognized rating data — separate for men and women, separate for front 9, back 9, and full 18 — built to the World Handicap System specification. Coming with v1.1.

5

Community-contributed scorecards

Hole-by-hole par, yardage, and stroke index data is rarely in any single public source. So we built a path: snap a photo of a paper scorecard after your round, our system reads it, and the information is added to the catalog for the next golfer. Coming with v1.1.

Accurate data, accurate coaching

Your stats depend on it

Greens in regulation, scoring breakdown, scrambling — every diagnostic stat we show you depends on the underlying course data being right. Wrong par on a hole? GIR number is wrong. Wrong rating? Handicap is wrong. So we invest heavily in data quality because the coaching value of My Golf Insights depends on it.

Coverage gaps are real — and handled

No catalog has every course. Small munis, brand-new builds, members-only clubs — these take time to verify. When that happens to you, My Golf Insights still lets you play your round. Enter pars manually now; snap a scorecard photo once OCR ships in v1.1. You're never locked out.

Handicap built to the right spec

Handicap index calculation has a specific shape under the World Handicap System: Net Double Bogey cap, slope-adjusted differentials, best 8 of the last 20. We build to that spec. Once our v1.1 rating integration ships, your handicap index is designed to closely match any WHS-compliant handicap service.

Included with your subscription

No "premium catalog" upsell. No course-search paywall. Catalog access is included. We invest in data quality steadily as the user base grows — not behind a separate paywall.

You're not stuck.

Pre-launch, you can play any round and enter pars manually — My Golf Insights doesn't block you on missing courses. Post-launch, you'll be able to snap a paper scorecard and the system will add the hole data to the catalog.

Or email [email protected] with the course name and state — we'll prioritize verification.
